Every event in our life is an episode of a root cause and an effect. Most causes or efforts are tangible and so the effects are also visible. If a person is to exercise daily with commitment and discipline, their physical body will start showing positive results. If a child studies hard for an examination, he/she will get good grades and pass. Plenty of examples show the ongoing cycle of ‘sow, so shall you reap.’
But there comes the puzzle- most of the negative actions will also reap negative reactions. If the said child does not study hard, he/she is bound to not do well in the exams. If the said person does not work out or indulges in unhealthy habits, eventually their body and mind will deteriorate.
It is interesting to go to the root of what causes our actions. There may be a karmic debt, a spiritual learning or simply an illustration to teach us the laws of nature. For both favourable and unfavourable cause and effect, there is an underlying unexplainable framework working for us.
Here are a few stellar illustrations of favourable cause and effect we see and experience daily.
A person receives promotion or sound acknowledgement at work, almost unexpectedly. The probable cause is hard work, determination and constant demonstration of grit and work ethic. The unseen cause is also the fact that the person is a good human being, who helps others in need and has a kind heart. He/she is grateful for the life and opportunities given and is willing to extend a helping hand to those who are not as fortunate.
Parents of young children give undivided attention to their children and play with them, listening to them attentively instead of fumbling around on their phones and laptops. The effect is seen in the children’s behaviour with the parents. The children develop a feeling of being safe, loved, and nurtured- all very crucial for the healthy development of a young body and brain. In return, the child displays transparency with parents trusting them with big or small matters and having open communication wherever they need it.
What goes around, comes around- when a person owes money, food, or clothes to another person maybe in the past, they do end up returning the favour sooner than later. The actions and transactions between both parties happen knowingly or unknowingly. This fulfilment of debt may happen between friends, relatives or just strangers who come together for just this purpose.
Here are a few stellar illustrations of the unfavourable cause and effect we see and experience daily.
A person constantly faces health issues. Despite belonging to a good family where there are ample services available, good food, rest and a peaceful life, the individual attracts constant maladies of the body. The cause is an incessant problem-finding and complaining nature. The person is always unhappy or unsatisfied. Their words attract negativity. Their mindset clouds their optimism and the ability to find joy in simple matters of life.
A greedy person will never be satisfied with what he/she has. They will want more and more of everything. They will be in a mindless rush to fill the bottomless pit of needs and desires. As a result, they are never at peace. The effect is that they miss out on living in the moment and enjoying the gift of the present.
Two partners in a relationship who are never happy with each other. The cause may be their narcissistic temperament and that they take the relationship for granted. Their personal interest comes before their partner and the life they have created together. This behaviour hurts the sentiments of both and end up detesting themselves and each other. It leads to a bitter separation instead of what could have been a beautiful journey of life together.
In an alternate situation, only one partner continues being narcissistic and refuses to change or give a chance to work on themselves to be better. The other reaches out for help, tries to understand and work on themselves to make the relationship work. Ultimately, if there is no resonance from the partner in terms of temperament or behaviour, they will have no option but to leave the toxicity and move ahead in their life. They will open new vistas and allow the universe to grant them new beginnings.
Each moment of life spent with self and others is a barter system. The book of records is in the hands of the supreme power. What we can do is be mindful of our actions and words and aim to be the citizens of the world. With just this effort, life will take its own turns and lead us to a beautiful destination. Ultimately, we must walk the path and trust the universe to bring forward nothing short of the best for us.
